Dutch Springs was a nicely set up place to dive. The entrance fees were a bit high for it however. We arrived in the later afternoon and checked in at the front office and mentioned we needed tanks. The rental facility is located at separate booth with the gift shop, which was closed when we arrived so we had to go back to the main booth which just required a bit of back and forth.
We were able to park and set up near the water on the Peninsula. There are picnic tables to set gear on which made assembly and kitting up easier. For the first dive we swam out to the descent line we thought was the plane, but turned out to be the trolley at about 60’. After swimming past the trolley, we went over the ledge and swam down to about 90’ for Kody’s deep dive. There were freshwater sponges growing on the rocks along with muscles. Swam back to the trolley, and explored around it before heading back to the shallows and the platforms.
We had planned on doing another dive after getting a tank fill before the station closed at 5:00p, but were then told that the last dive had to be in the water by 5:00, so we were unable to do another dive before out night dives.
We geared up and were in the water at dusk for our night dives. We followed the lines from the beach to the midwater platforms, and then to the two sunken boats. After an ascent we came back down and followed the lines back to the start.
The dives were nice, and visibility was very nice, it would be interesting to go back and see more of the underwater sites. In the future would be sure to get there early to avoid any confusion about ending dive times.
